Here's an alternative mindset I've been practicing whenever I find myself fearfully scrambling to figure it all out RIGHT NOW:
"I don't know how it's going to happen. I don't know how it's all going to work. I don't know how I'm going to get there. But I'm super excited to find out. "
This isn't the first time you didn't know the way. Yet, somehow you still managed to arrive. This time is no different. Stay open to being guided. Believe you will be shown. Rely on your intuition. Follow the path as it appears. Keep the vision. Take the steps. Trust the process.
"Impatience means I believe something’s not going to happen.“ -Joe Dispenza
“Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait, and wait without anxiety.“ -A Course In Miracles
I really liked this combo of quotes. Especially if we‘re talking about presence, patience, following the energy of the moment, and trusting in life as our co-creative partner. (And we‘re always talking about that).
Just going to leave them right here...
Popularity doesn't always prove talent. It doesn't indicate value or worth. The chase after fame is a perpetual one, a never-ending dance with dissatisfaction. How completely exhausting.
A solution? Just put your focus on the work. Make your art. Keep following your joy. Be yourself. With or without the outside validation. In this world there is so much extraordinary existing within relative obscurity. Be extraordinary. Focus on what you're here to do- what you love to do- and do it. Have fun. And don't worry about the rest.
Possible Q's: Why would I try to do what so many other people are doing and have already done? Does the world really need another___?
Pertinent A's: Yes, there may be others on a similar path, with a similar style, all sharing a similar picture of success, but there is no one else in the world that is exactly like you. No one else has lived your unique combination of experiences and can bring to your endeavors exactly what you bring. No two people are the same.
If you are pulled by joyful curiosity, genuine interest, and heart-felt desire, then there must be a reason for it. Even if you don't know what it is yet. Trust it and move forward at your own natural pace, in your own natural way. Each of us has a variety of roles to play, messages to share, people to reach, and services to provide. We're all interconnected, all a part of a much larger incomprehensible picture. So, how can you, in your limited human awareness, ever really know what the world actually needs?
Maybe it needs just the thing you've been holding back from it.
I always start out making these little doodles as reminders for myself. When I feel the pull to share them I think it's because someone else out there needs the reminder too. I don't know who this is for but I hope it brings you a bit of relief and comfort. We aren't here to be copies of each other. We aren't here to live out what others project or expect for us. We don't have to live a life that doesn't feel true or authentic to our own being. We may get inspired by what others do and have, we might find similarities and points where we intersect, but overall our lives are uniquely ours. We get to draw and color them in as we choose based on what feels best to us and for us at any given time.
Your art is your art. If anyone harshly criticizes you or attempts to invalidate you or your work, don't worry. They're just giving you a free tour of their personal prison. They're just showing you around the place, pointing out the various chains and shackles that keep them restrained. Speak a silent prayer for their freedom, turn around, and then walk out the door. Their torture chamber doesn't have to be yours. You never have to stay.
I've never really been the type to get starstruck. Well, there was that one time I sat next to Deepak Chopra at a cafe. And maybe I was a bit in awe when I waited on Lily Tomlin at my old restaurant job. But it wasn't because they were famous. It wasn't because their names are known and their faces are easily recognizable. It was mostly because they've both left such an impact on me personally through their work. It was not about their celebrity. It was more about their contribution.
I have never understood famous for famous sake. I have always felt uncomfortable with such an arbitrary hierarchy. I have often been curious about our celebrity-obsessed culture; how and why we place certain people up on our societally approved pedestals. No wonder I had pursued a career in the entertainment business way past the time it felt right or fun for me; I had somehow confused being powerful with being famous.
I was recently told while getting an energy reading that I was here to be "the star of my own life." I thought, yeah. Totally. But... aren't we all here to do that? Aren't we all here to activate our own inner power, to shine our own brand of brilliance, to gift the world with our unique glow, to contribute our own light into the collective? We're all made up of stardust anyway. So, in a sense, we are all stars.
Today I lit a pink candle for love. I lit this candle to know more love, to be more love, and to see more love within my own personal life and in the world. I did so in preparation for tomorrow morning’s full (super)moon in Taurus. When I think Taurus I think stabilize, ground, and cultivate. I love the word cultivate because it means persistent action over time. To cultivate is to develop, to improve upon, to become. It implies that we are not powerless to the conditions of our lives. It means we can create the kind of world we’d like to live in.
Making a wish is easy. But believing it can actually come true and taking new actions in support of your desired circumstance, takes openness, fearlessness, and courage. No wonder we make our wishes by blowing on dandelions, the flower whose name means "lion's tooth."
In magic and in life, there really is no substitute for self-advocation.
Words create worlds. Pay attention to what you think and say. The words we use to describe ourselves and our surroundings are powerful. The words we use are often indicators of what we believe is possible. And we are always co-creating our lives and magnetically attracting experiences based on what we truly believe. You want to see something, you will! For better or for worse. Words can be excellent clues and useful tools. Because perception is everything. The words that we release from our brains and let loose from our mouths declare to an always responsive universe what we desire to see more of.
I used to say jokingly "the fantasy is always better than the reality." And that was really true for me. I didn't want it be but it was. Then I decided to start saying "reality is better than any fantasy ever was or could ever be." And before I knew it, that became true. We can lock ourselves up in tiny prisons or we can free ourselves into unlimited possibilities. Lucky us. It's our choice!
