People talk about life purpose as if it’s a particular job title or career to stumble upon and then pursue. As if all jobs that came before that “life purpose” discovery are wasted experiences. As if you’re late to the successful people party and need to catch up to do that thing you are supposed to be doing. As if once you find “it” you’re done. You’re set. You’re in. You know. You’re there. And yet, in truth, the jobs we hold are only one aspect of living our purpose. Oh, and also- it is quite impossible to be late to a party that is only ever happening NOW.
Your life purpose is to live YOUR particular life. It is to follow your own unique path as directed by your own inner guidance. It is to find alignment with the largest and most expansive part of you - your soul body - the part that never wavers in its attention and support of you. It holds the original blueprint to the life of your dreams - the life that feels most true and authentic and familiar as if it is the life you have always desired, the life you may have forgotten you came here to live.
Part of your life’s purpose is to return home to yourself. It is to pursue your own healing and find peace within. It is to quiet your mind, pull your focus inward, and listen to your own intuitive guidance. It is to seek out the simple pleasures that bring you joy, to find more and more things to feel good about. Every day. It is to move in the direction of your natural curiosities; those unique and eclectic interests, talents, and affinities which make you, you. And to take any particular actions that feel fun and/or inspired.
This dream life - your life’s purpose - is not only about the tasks you complete, the titles you hold, the people with whom you associate, or the legacy that you leave. It is about the energy you contribute to your environment. Daily. It is your feeling of personal satisfaction, enjoyment, and fulfillment regardless of what job you are doing and where you are doing it.
Your life’s purpose is to honor your soul’s directives and to live your life’s joy. And to return to this knowing whenever you forget.
Today I will be humble. I will be aware of my simultaneous significance and insignificance as a human being. I will be loving. I will greet others with the same respect and warmth I would hope to receive. I will be grateful. I will remember the interconnection of all things, the illusion of linear time, and the truth that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. I will know that all that once existed still exists in different form. I will feel safe in my body, trusting that the natural expression of my essence is the temporary role I am here to play. Whatever passions excite me, whatever delights my spirit, whatever leaves me with a peaceful sense of purpose, is the way in which I send out love to my environment. It is my unique contribution to the collective. I will be myself. I will walk the world with patience and with ease, knowing that wherever I wander I am home.
"Impatience means I believe something’s not going to happen.“ -Joe Dispenza
“Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait, and wait without anxiety.“ -A Course In Miracles
I really liked this combo of quotes. Especially if we‘re talking about presence, patience, following the energy of the moment, and trusting in life as our co-creative partner. (And we‘re always talking about that).
Just going to leave them right here...
There really is an answer to every call, a deliverance for every request. It's real. It's resonance. Energetic. Scientific. What you are looking for is looking for you too. Just have to keep your mind clear enough to receive the guidance, your body tuned in enough to show you the way. What you are hoping to find, is hoping to be found. Just have to keep your eyes -and heart- open enough to recognize it when you do.
I will never ever join you in your hopelessness.
I will never ever believe that things are as helpless as you may temporarily believe.
I will always orient you toward solution.
I will always indicate what we must NOW do.
I will never harp on your “wrong” turns.
I will only ever guide you back in the “right” direction.
You can choose to line up with me to replenish your sense of hope and renew your sense of purpose or you can choose to continue having the same old negative and depleting conversations with other scared, disconnected people.
That mind of yours - that “thinking cap” you wear - can be plugged into whatever thought form you choose. A mob-mentality or predominant popular opinion may be a challenge to avoid but YOUR point of focus, YOUR place of attention is always YOUR choice.
Step away from the others for a second.
Put down your devices and their constant stream of information.
Connect to me first, before anything or anyone else. Seek me out at the center of your being. Regularly. Daily. Whenever you need.
I am always here for you.
So is peace.
So is calm.
So many inspired ideas.
So many ways to assist, to be a positive contribution to the world in which you live.
I hold all the answers to your questions.
I possess the maps to all your desired destinations.
And I will always be your safe space of regeneration and renewal, no matter the chaos that surrounds.
- The Source Within/Your Inner Divinity
Focusing on the good won't make you some naive Pollyanna. It doesn’t mean you are unaware or not awake. No, it means you are confident in your divine birthright as a conscious co-creator on this planet. It means you are aware of your ability to affect change and to work with the natural universal laws to make things better for yourself and for everyone. It means you know that you are magic. And you know that working your magic means reaching for the highest possible thought and focusing on the love and the light - the divinity - within all things. This is the truth of who you are - of who we all are. And it will always bring us back to a place of peace and harmony.
Old goal: to be happy all the time regardless of circumstances.
New goal: to be present and patient with whatever arises within me, to practice self-care over self-rejection, to no longer shame myself for any ugly or unpleasant thoughts and emotions, to not force a state of being that does not feel authentic or true, to sit with what is and to listen.
Old goal: happiness
New goal: freedom
Give another person your full attention today. Put down your physical distractions. Tune out your mental ones. Actually listen to what the other person is saying. Hear their words and the spaces in between. Hold the space for their authenticity. Be open, be patient, be compassionate. Attempt to understand their point of view.
I know, multitasking seems to be a necessity these days. We've all got a million super important things that need to get done and we seem to allllways be short on time. Yet, taking a few minutes to be fully present with another person is a huge gift. For both parties. Because, in truth, we all want to be acknowledged and accepted for who we are- for who we really are. We all long to be understood. We all want to feel valued. And we all benefit from soulful connection.
Be present with another soul today. Allow them to feel seen and heard without judgment. Remind them of who they really are underneath surface appearances and chosen identities. Remind them with your undivided attention. Remind them of their importance. Remind them that they matter.
So often we are sleepwalking through this existence without recognizing how magical the seemingly mundane really is. Everything within our world is alive and speaking to us. If we allow it, that is. If we can open up to this constant communication we can fully appreciate its beauty and receive its gifts. These sights can wake us up from our ordinary humanness. They can connect us to something bigger - to the essence of who we really are - beyond our monotony. They can remind us of our eternal nature, our responsibility, our greater purpose and our connection to everything everywhere.
Popularity doesn't always prove talent. It doesn't indicate value or worth. The chase after fame is a perpetual one, a never-ending dance with dissatisfaction. How completely exhausting.
A solution? Just put your focus on the work. Make your art. Keep following your joy. Be yourself. With or without the outside validation. In this world there is so much extraordinary existing within relative obscurity. Be extraordinary. Focus on what you're here to do- what you love to do- and do it. Have fun. And don't worry about the rest.
Sometimes, mid-prance, my dog Remy will abruptly stop and sniff the air. Following her nose to the apparent source of her intoxication, she'll attempt to walk back the way we came, pulling me with her in the process. My usual response is, "come on, Rems. We move forward, not backward. You want treats? Let's get some treats!" This is always effective.
I actually use the same technique on myself, whenever I feel the pull to relive my past or replay my worst/greatest hits. Yes, the past was necessary. You wouldn't be where you are now without it. Yet, you do not need to go back there. You can't physically go back there. And would you really even want to? Thank the ground you've already covered. Feel the spot of earth that is currently beneath your feet. And walk in the direction of your future destination, where an infinity of possibilities - and treats - await you.
Love is most definitely not about possession. Yikes. But it's also not about projection.
If I am only seeing you as I want you to be, if I am so immersed in my own imagined fantasy of our connection, if my expectations take me on a wild ride, then I am not grounded in the here and now. I am not connected to the energetic truth of this moment. I may not be able to recognize what is happening below the surface, that there may be a very obvious energetic dissonance between us. That we may, in fact, have nothing in common! In these moments of projection in the guise of "finding" love, I am not present with you as you really are. I'm actually not even seeing you at all. I'm seeing what I want and hope to see. I'm casting you in a role you haven't yet signed on for. I'm somewhere in Act 3 before the opening credits have even finished. And so if/when you suddenly lose interest in the project, I will suffer at the loss of such a potentially important character and scramble to find the reasons why you didn't want to play the part. I'll feel rejected, not good enough, and totally disappointed yet I'm the only source of my suffering- I'm the one giving my power away to an illusion.
The causes of this behavior are varied but the solution is the same: Let go and trust that you are enough in this moment. That you don't need to force or make anything happen. That there are millions of people in the world and when a true energetic connection is present and when both parties are open and ready for companionship, things naturally progress. All you ever need to be is honest and authentic. All you ever need to seek is your self-acceptance and self-healing. Get so good and comfortable in your own being, so full of the love that is ALWAYS within you- that you can greet another person without expectation or projection. You can be present enough to fully take in and enjoy the moment. You can just relax, have fun and be free.
So can I fly yet?... No? Not yet? Even though you gave me these wings and showed me where you want me to go and what you want me to do?... Um ok. No big. I'll just hang here in my old crawling spot... What? No, I was kidding! You ofcourse know best! I'm cool here. Juuuuust tell me when. I can totally wait...
Nostalgia is a treat best enjoyed briefly. Spend too long savoring the flavor, its naturally nourishing warmth turns cold, inciting the inevitable feelings of sadness and longing for what used to be. But every moment spent reliving the past, every attempt to recreate what was, is only a distraction from all the delicious experiences in front of you right here and now, just waiting to be devoured. Turn off the mind and its incessant associations and be here now. Nothing is sweeter.
Well, maybe chipwiches.
And now I want a chipwich.
It's very easy to get overwhelmed. To have to do so many things, to be present for so many people, and to be in so many places at once. Obligations, responsibilities, daily tasks and chores. Our personal energies split, scatter, and are often depleted before the day is through.
Everyone I've talked to this week- myself included- has been feeling the repercussions of being constantly connected to the people in our lives- as well as the anxious buzz of the outside world. If we don't plug in our own rechargeable batteries first, before giving of our energy, we won't have much to give. If we don't center in our own unique selves first, we can feel lost, confused, and completely disconnected from our intuition. We won't be able to hear that vital inner voice- the one that always guides us in the right direction. Mine keeps reminding me: "go somewhere green and ground."
Even if it's just within your imagination. It really only takes 1 minute to plant your feet in the grass and to become aware of YOUR breath, YOUR body, and the fact that you are a human being (doing the best you can) on a spinning planet somewhere in space.
Self-care isn't selfish. It's essential.
It seems like everyone else has what you don't have. It appears as if something has gone scarce or is being purposely withheld. And while this is definitely one version of reality, there's still a part of you that knows a more heavenly perspective. There's a part of you that still holds a less fractured point of truth. And when you find this spot within, when you tap into it, you remember. From here, there is nothing that you're missing. There is nothing that you lack.
